[postlink]https://buildingnewworlds.blogspot.com/2010/02/some-possible-down-time.html[/postlink]Due to the uncertainty right now with an illness in the family things are kind of on again off again with working on BNW web projects right now. At this point I am not even sure when or where I am working some days until last minute. Things are not going to get any easier for some time to come I am afraid. It is going to require some support from the BNW community to keep things rolling on line for a while until I can get more of an idea of when I have time to do the things needed for me to do.
Mean while I have been working on the new web site. It is going slow and there is now some re work to do as I was not liking how it flowed the way I was doing it. As I go along I am finding that some of the things I was hoping to do I can find better of ways of doing another way that looks better. I think this site is going to be much better than I had hoped for once it is complete. Right now I am just into the Woodland Sceinc part of the site. I am adding the text first on most things and then to pictures. If there is any special page functions those are getting added when I first start the page.
There will be a sign up area on the site for getting special offers and updates on products that are added as we grow. I will be looking for Building New Worlds network members to sign up for this.
Along with the new web site there will be a new community set up also for the products we are going to have on the site. It will cover interest in a few areas so checking that out when it is up and running will be a must if you like Woodland Scenics.

Some Possible Down Time

[postlink]https://buildingnewworlds.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-web-site-update.html[/postlink]The Next Generation web site is going along rather well right now. We did hit a couple of snags this past week but thank to learning about a next extension for the program we are using it is back on track again and from what I have shown James so far he seemed rather impressed by it. I personally feel that compared to where we were last year and other years past this is light years ahead of the game. The next techie stuff I am learning and starting to use on the back end of Building New Worlds should also put me well ahead of other retailers I am up against as far as bring you new ways of learning how to use the products we carry and I am looking into new things every week that will put us ahead of the game and bring you all easier, faster and better ways to get active with Building New Worlds not only as customers but as a community also.
This week i will be looking deeper into the Pine Car products from Woodland Scenics and exploring the options with them. Some of the things we are looking at are, possibly doing Pine Car races at our Albany store this year and at Uncle Daniel's Pumpkin Patch in the fall. We are also looking at what products in this line to offer in the store and what we would be special ordering for customers from time to time.
From phone calls at talks I have had with folks in the Albany area this past month I am adding to the list for the coming year the idea of bring in art supplies to Building New Worlds but this will have to be down the road a little ways. One step at a time for mow. We are still in the middle is a tight squeeze with the markets right now and I do not want to over load my back end when things are not going out the door very fast right now. We are here to stay here and spending money we do not have right now is not wise. We will keep this on the table for talks at a later time though.
As a reminder to all you locals from Oregon please watch for our store opening back up with nursery season rolls around again. Some time around Easter Finch Family Water Gardens will be opening up for its new season and we will have a spot there as we did last year. I will blog more about this as we get closer to opening. We have not set up this years area yet but it is coming!

New Web Site Update

[postlink]https://buildingnewworlds.blogspot.com/2010/01/pine-car-race.html[/postlink]We have been in talks for a few days now about Pine Car and selling these products in the store instead of just taking orders for the products. Seems that most folk don't give themselves time to order anything. They need it right them and there. Along with that we are talking about the possibility of doing our own Pine Car races here at the Nursery a couple of times or so a year if we carry the products in store. What I would like to know is if we do that how many people would be interested in this? Now I know right now not a lot of people are seeing the blog but if I could get a heads up on Pine Car and interest in it that would be a great thing.
We are trying to keep it simple for now on stock until we know what the year is going to be like. Most of the time people get in trouble buying too much and having to sit on it for a long time. Not good for business at all. Trust me, I am sitting on some things that I rather not already...lol.
If we do the races I would like to do work shops also on building Pine Cars. After all, we are heading in the direction of being not only about selling you stuff but teaching people new ways of using the products we carry and some not so new ways for those who need or want to get started. Its always good business to be willing to share what you know I think. My goals for the year is to open up to more work shops for crafting and hobbies. The more you know about our products the better off we all are, right?
